the coming of spring

growing up outside of washington dc, i always new spring as coming when the crocuses began to peek out of the dirt around our patio. the crocuses always came before the tuplips and daffodils. the first flower to brave the transition from winter to spring. i would get so excited to see flowers blooming again after months of snow and cold.

while we've had a few warmer days here and there, we still haven't been able to completely shake the midwest winter. many people say that we won't see spring until may - but as i was driving to work this week, i saw something amazing. crocuses in bloom along the side of the road.

even though we may have had snow here on sunday, i'm hopefully optimistic that spring is on its way here. and as i observed as a girl, the crocuses always seem to know.

I've never heard of a crocus before, but that's a beautiful picture of them, so bright and springy, sticking up out of the snow!
