heading to hyde park

my sister, miss m., use to live not far from london's hyde park. so, when she was in town this weekend, we had to take her to our hyde park, which is actually not a park at all.

first stop. trying to get a glimpse at mr. obama's residential home. but who knew that the secret service would foil our plans.
we only made it half way down the street before we were approached and asked to head back to our car. luckily we were able to take a picture of the blockade at the street entrance before our final departure.

we did discover on our walk that the obamas' home is close to the corner of the next street. so, we did a drive by to see the house but didn't take any pictures. that side of the street was blockaded and patrolled as well.

stop two. the university of chicago. years ago, i visited the campus with my sister, mrs. jones, and completely fell in love with the idea of grad school just because i wanted to go to school there.

well, i didn't go to grad school at chicago, but am grateful for the inspiration to go back to school while i was on the campus that day. since grad school's where mr. pike and i met.

i think the university of chicago has a beautiful campus. and still would go to school there if i had an extra $100,000 laying around and some free time. mr. pike had never been down to hyde park, and i knew he'd be in photography heaven with the english gothic-style architecture. i love it. and miss m. said it reminded her of oxford university.

last stop on our hyde park tour. the robie house designed by frank lloyd wright. i find mr. wright's architectural style fascinating. not sure if i'd live in a prairie-style home. but i do like some of the built-in features of his homes.

we couldn't take any shots of the inside of the home, but here's the outside. maybe it looks more homey in the spring when the trees and plants are back from their winter sleep.
