wrestling and wrangling

baby girl really is a sweet girl. she is. but when it comes to playing with other babies her age, she's a little aggressive. not aggressive as in anger issues, she just doesn't understand the concept of personal space.

so baby girl will get in other babies' faces, even touch their faces. she may crawl over them or accidentally push them down. her intentions are playful, but mostly she makes other babies cry.

i'm the kind of mom that wants baby girl to explore her surroundings. she definitely is curious, and i want to foster that curiosity, not crush it. so, i don't usually stop baby girl from her interactions with other children unless i know that she may hurt them or that the other baby (or mom) seems upset by baby girl's gregariousness.

most mom's end up swooping their kids up, leaving baby girl on her own and me wondering how i can teach an eight-month-old playdate etiquette. (so far, the lessons on personal space and "being soft" haven't been internalized just yet.)

while we were with family this past weekend, baby girl met her perfect playdate match. her cousins -- mr. j (4) and mr. k (2). these three wrestled and wrangled. the boys took turns giving baby girl horsey rides. and i didn't have to worry about excusing baby girl's behavior or stopping her from her from the way she plays.

all were having a fabulous time. three happy kids. one happy mom. it's so sad that they live more than 1,500 miles away. we're counting down the days until we see them again this summer.

Ella was that way too when she was that age. I know exactly how you feel. We have a picture of her lunging at another child but it was all in playful fun. I'm glad she found some cousins she could foster that curiosity with. If you come out this way we'd love to see you.
