dinner inspiration

my sister, mrs. jones, recently sent me a list of her favorite food blogs, and as i visited each of the sites, i found a selection of recipes that looked so good i had to try them. (the photographs are that convincing!)

one that i couldn't pass up was smitten kitchen's shaved asparagus pizza. (please visit deb's site -- she has fantastic photographs, which do much better justice to this dish than mine.) i love asparagus. and i love pizza. so, this recipe was quickly added to my list of recipes to make in the near future.

it was quite fortunate that as i was perusing the grocery circular the next day i found asparagus on sale for $1.88 per pound. "hooray!" i thought. "we can have shaved asparagus pizza this week!"

so as i made my menu for the week, this pizza was one of the first dishes to be scheduled. it's finding a recipe like this that makes me feel excited to cook. (and since cooking's something i do every day, it feels a lot better to be excited about it than think of it as a chore. . . . if only i could feel that way about the dishes!)

the recipe was easy to prepare, and it was so delicious. really, it was so fantastic, i wish i was eating it now. the flavors are simple and focus on the asparagus. i love the pairing of the mildness of the mozzarella with the coarse salt and olive oil that you toss with the asparagus shavings. it's yumminess.

if you're looking for some new food recipes, here are a few of my favorite sites i like to go to for cooking inspiration. (if you have your own favorites, please share!)

Hi. I found your blog listed on the blog of Steve Wiscombe. I am trying to find a Steven Wiscombe who was in Japan around 1968, 1969 as a missionary for the Mormon church. He was a companion to Gary Cook (my first husband), but I am trying to find another mutual friend. If the Steve Wiscombe you know, sounds like the one I am talking about, could you please contact me? I am trying to find someone else he might know from his Japan days. I also was a missionary in Japan. My maiden name was Bonnie Anderson. Please email me at randysorenson@comcast.net
