finding a happy place

it's been a while since we blogged about life at the pike house.

in an effort to forget the craziness of dumping spices in a cup, unwinding a spool of thread and roll of toilet paper, knocking over a lamp and breaking it, along with screaming games of tag in the house and fights for toys -- and this is just this morning -- i decided to find a happy moment to remember.

this was one of those perfect days.  mr. pike and i took the kids up to lake erie at the end of august. the day was not too hot, but warm enough with a slight breeze.  the kids played in the sand and splashed in the water.  

little girl and little boy were delightful.  they often talk about going back to the beach, and i'm kicking myself why we didn't go up there earlier in the summer.  we could have had many weekends of sand, sunshine, and joy.  

now we have something to look forward to for next summer.  and a perfect memory to get me through the day -- or at least until nap time.

little boy can help himself to almost anything these days.  

this is why we're putting locks on almost everything that opens.

hotel living

there's nothing better than watching a show in a king-sized bed.  hotel living.

pajama time

sometimes we wear pjs all day

when little boy got new pajamas for christmas, he decided to enter a pajama phase of life, where happiness can only be achieved while wearing pajamas.  you should see the pain and sadness that he feels when we try to put on clothes.  you'd think he was being tortured.  (i think i'm being tortured.)


i once heard an interview with sarah jessica parker, and she said her son had a pajama phase.  she embraced it.  she'd take him around new york in his pjs -- so, i feel like we're in good company on days i don't want to fight.

and sometimes like capes

those are the days little boy wears his pajamas all day.  we go out to run errands, take little girl to school, go to the gym -- and little boy struts around in pajamas.

sometimes little boy and i strike a compromise -- the pj cape.  that at least means little boy will have shoes on, which is a win for me.  

and once in a while, little boy wears clothes only.  

many people have told me they wish they could wear fleece-footie pjs all day too.  so, maybe little boy is on the verge of setting a fashion trend.  all you need is a little confidence.

this is it!

a weekend away -- with children -- can have a few downs along with all the fun times.  little boy made it clear on the ride home, he was done.  


can't wait for our 22-hour road trip to idaho!  (look for highlights from that trip mid-july!)
