halloween revisited

for halloween, little girl really wanted to be a princess.  more specifically, of the disney variety.  mr. pike and i have never embraced the disney culture -- only because so many little girls seem to get to obsessed with princesses.

well, little girl is obsessed.  and all without seeing most disney movies.  so when she made her request to be sleeping beauty or rapunzel for halloween, she gave two reasons. (1) they're both nice princesses.  (2) they both wear modest dresses.

i thought that was an impressive argument for a four-year-old.  so, we let her have her dress.

little boy was a pirate (which suited him, since he spent much of the night trying to steal his sister's or the trick-o-treating candy).  and in the spirit of crafter bloggers and pinterest enthusiasts everywhere, i made his costume.  with the help of walmart, which supplied the sweatpants and t-shirt.

a belated halloween!

nacho libre
happy halloween! we know we're a few days late in sending our spookiest, ghoulish greetings.  and we're sorry about that.

i love the idea of halloween.  i love thinking of costume ideas and becoming someone or something different for a night.

it's especially fun to choose a costume for the kids -- like little boy as nacho libre.  (we tried to pack some pounds on his gut but his little ribs still poke through.  mr. pike thought little boy might have made a better esqueleto.  but i liked the idea of stretchy pants too much!  hand-dyed by me.)

or make a reality little girl's costume wish.  if you're going to have once costume, you might as well have three, right?!

foofa princess saturn
but while i love halloween, i really have a hard time spending too much time and money for one day.  and so, mr. pike and i opted out of halloween this year.  (and i had a great idea for mr. pike -- dj lance rock.  i think he would have looked awesome in an orange jumpsuit!)

maybe if we're all lucky, mr. pike will get a second chance as dj lance.  until then, happy, happy halloween!

happy halloween!

trick-o-treat! this weekend we preped for today's festivities by carving a jack-o-lantern. we each took turns designing one of its features -- well, everyone except baby boy. then mr. pike did the carving. it's a jolly, spooky pumpkin.

for weeks, little girl has been telling everyone that she's going to be a cowboy. i drove to the city last week to buy her some boots. i went to four different stores looking for a hat. and i burned the midnight oil saturday finishing a red-checked shirt and pleather vest. (i want a pleather vest now, too.)

then this morning, as we got ready for our halloween party, she didn't want to dress up. when our friends started showing up for the festivities, a friend asked her if she was a princess (because little girl had on a tulle skirt on). and little girl said, "no. i a girl."

so, if i'm lucky, little girl will wear her costume tonight and we'll take some pictures to share.

happy HALLOWEEN!

we're off to see the wizard!

Happy Halloween!

Mrs. Pike made baby girl's Dorothy (from the Wizard of Oz) dress. As you can tell from the pic below, baby girl was fascinated with her ruby (checkered) slippers.
