a few weeks ago as i was doing my makeup, i looked at my eyes and realized i have a few more wrinkles around them than i remembered. that's when it hit me - i turn 30 this year.
i started thinking about things 30-somethings do -- invest in a heavier duty eye cream, look for gray hairs, watch their metabolism continue to slow. and then i wondered -- is 30 too old to wear skinny jeans? what is really age appropriate for a 30-year-olds' wardrobe?
i never was on the cutting edge of trend -- but i like to think that i have a unique way of mixing trendy elements with classic ones. and yet, now i'm wondering if there are items that should be retired from my 20-something closet. where do i draw the line on trend?
it is a strange feeling to me -- like i must redefine myself all over again. i've done that before in high school and again in college. and it seems like it's time for that once again. it's just hard to know where to begin . . . i wonder if there's a manual out there about wardrobe changes from 29 to 30.

Interesting thoughts, Marilyn. I turn 40 this year and truly hope that I don't look it . . . but I also don't want to embarrass my kids by NOT looking 40. Good luck figuring this one out. In my opinion, if you still look GOOD wearing skinny jeans, go for it. I saw a mom at Disneyland last month with her tween kids wearing jeans I wouldn't be caught dead in and I thought she looked great!
you look great in everything... don't worry... and be yourself
I just read a magazine article and skinny jeans/leggings are a trend that have and will keep coming back in style. No age limit. If it works (and for you, my skinny friend, it does) just keep working it.
Is this the girl who wore high tops with her prom dress? Have I just happened on a fashion error? I wear j and S's hand-me downs and the girls at school think I dress cool. (Or are they just buttering up the teacher?) So get M to send you hers and wear what makes you feel fine. I hear fat pants are coming back.

I totally agree! If you look good, work it. And yes, there are several hilarious but good books on this topic. I am turning 31 this year, so I had this exact same crisis last year! Wrinkles around the eyes included.
It might be a little late to respond to this post, but i'm just catching up on your blog now... the way i understand it, 30 is the new 20 - so your good. This, of course, makes 40 the new 30, which is a relief to me because I turn 40 this week. I realized the other day that my fashion has become a little lame and its time to figure out how to kick it up a notch without looking like Cher. Marilyn, my dear, you have a classic chic that will travel with you over time. Enjoy 30; I love it! (and congrats on baby girl!)
