our new place has all hardwood floors, which mr. pike and i like. but, now we need a few rugs to soften spaces like our bedrooms and the family room. so, mr. pike and i have been searching.
we found this soft wool rug at west elm. it feels like you're walking on a wool sweater. and it adds a great texture to the room. we're thinking this rug for our family room.
so, when mr. pike and i ventured to west elm and to see the rug in person and talk to someone about wear and care for this rug. the sales person told us that a rug like this shouldn't be vacuumed normally, but should be beaten or vacuumed with a crevice tool.
when i mentioned this fact to some family members, they thought this rug was a little too high maintenance, especially for a family with little ones.
but, mr. pike and i just love this rug! and we've looked at a lot of rugs and haven't liked many of them. mr. pike doesn't think it will be too difficult to keep clean. and it doesn't seem too bad to me either. are we being a little naive? are we crazy to buy a higher maintenance rug? or should we buy what we love?

in a word Y E S!! you are crazy! Can't you find a rug 'like' it but low maintenance? just sayin' ..good luck & congrats on the new home! :)
I say you're young enough to learn from your mistakes. Buy what you love, and then deal with the consequences. But then, I don't clean up after kids; just seminary students every now and then.
If it makes you feel better, wool is hard wearing and easy to clean. It resists water and liquids.
If it really is too hard to maintain, you can always use it in another room.
On the other hand, you might check out this review:
