how 'bout them apples

it's apple season in our neck of the woods.  and mr. pike and i wanted to share in the harvest.

the pikes have long been known as apple growers and pickers, having a few varieties in their own yard.  mr. pike didn't want the tradition to die, and i was more than eager to join in the fun.  we envisioned our bounty of apples being turned into applesauce and canned for another day's enjoyment.

we found a small orchard by our home and made a trip over the weekend.  we picked macintosh, empires, and jonathans -- about 12 pounds total.

next weekend we'll try our hand at making applesauce and see if we bit off more than we can chew!

Apple picking -- how fun! I wish it was easier for us escape to the farms and orchards at harvest time, but this city is so big, and without a car, it makes getting out of it a little challenging.

I have a GREAT (and very easy) recipe for crockpot applesauce. In fact, I made some today. If you'd like it, just say the word.
